Located in Central Europe, Poland is the 9th largest country in Europe. It shares a border with Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus and has The Baltic Sea to its north. The country is divided into 16 provinces or Voivodeship as they are locally known. Each province is governed by a Governor, an Executive and a Regional assembly. Poland is a Democratic country and holds general elections every five years. It is the sixth largest Economy in the European Union and the twentieth largest economy in the world. Life in Poland

The predominant language spoken in Poland is Polish, how this also offers international students to be exposed to a new language but all aspects of live in Poland do include English. Poland is known for its vast and rich history and is home to fourteen UNESCO World Heritage sites. Poland has some of the interesting landscapes and is home to famous Glaciers and Mountains. Lakes have always played an important role in Polish history and continue to be of great importance to today's modern Polish society. Nowadays the Polish lakes provide a location for the pursuit of water sports such as yachting and wind-surfing which is a major tourist attraction.Poland is a part of the of the European Union since 2004 and boasts of being the one of the strongest economies in the European markets. The Polish people have for a long time been regarded as having a very tolerant society, which affords equal rights to all people no matter what their ethnic background.

The country has a democraticgovernment which holds elections every 5 years and free market economic system. Poland is committed to providing a liberal economy as offers complete support to the private sector. Its strong financial planning made it the only European country that remained unaffected by economic crisis of the 2000’s which is a testament to its economic strength and stability.

Education in each of Poland’ssixteen provinces or administrative divisions is governed by The Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA). It is the only statutory body in Poland responsible for assessment of quality of education provided by higher education institutions. The PKA is a member of the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR)and understands that studying abroad can be a life-changing experience, because it exposes people to completely new and different worlds, mindsets, values, attitudes and perceptions. Since the launch of a few new initiatives in 2010-2011, Poland has become a frontrunner when it comes to progressive education systems. PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) ranked Poland literacy values as the 10th highest in the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) nations. The EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) ranks Poland 6th on the index of countries for the average level of English language skills present amongst adults. Poland’s tried and tested education system prides itself of attaining an Adult Literacy Rate of 99.7% which amongst the highest in the world. The Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Poland are divided into state (public) and private (non-public) institutions. There are two main categories of higher education institutions: university-type and non-university institutions.Poland’s educational system usesfour main terms referring to academic titles/degrees: Licencjat or Inżynier (the equivalent of Bachelor, being the first post-secondary degree you can get as a student), Magister (the equivalent of Master) and Doktor (the equivalent of Doctor).




 
 
1st Cycle
First-cycle studies(3 to 4 years) leadinng to the professional title of a licencjat or inzynier (Engineer, in the filed of engineering, agriculture or economics). This is the Polish equivalent of the Bachelor's degree. It is focused on preparing students for future employment or for continued education with the Master's degree programmes. To obtain this degree, students must earn 180-240ECTS credits
2nd Cycle
Second-cycle studies - Master's degree program (1.5 to 2 years) following the first cycle studies and leading to the professional title of a Master (Magister, or an equivalent degree depending on the syudy course profile). It is focused on theoritical knowledge as well as application and development of creative skills. In artistic disciplines, the focuse is on development of creativity and talents. The Master degree holders may enter a doctral program(third-cycle studies). To obtain the degree, students must earn 90-120ECTS credits.
3rd Cycle
Third-cycle studies - Doctral degree programs (normally 3 to 4 years) accessible for graduates of Master's degree program, leading to the PhD degree, offered by the university type schools as well as some research institutions (departments of polish academy of sciences as well as research abd development institutions). The PhD degree is awarded yo candidates who submit and successfullydefend a doctral dissertion before the thesis committee abd pass the doctral examination.
